Grade eight: Complete and turn in your geometry worksheets. I did not get those you did over the weekend….those of you who are guilty of not turning yours in, please enjoy your day in tomorrow.

 Grade six: Complete your angles worksheet the way you were instructed. Please pay attention to instructions. Use your notes to guide you in showing how to solve for your missing angles…. Simply putting an answer below the problem is not sufficient at this point in time. Assignments should be turned in on Wednesday in your notebooks.

While you are out this weekend….

Grade eight: Please complete your construction worksheet. Use your straight edge and your compasses. It would also be a good idea to review some of the procedures we looked at on the web in today's class (Khanacademy.com)

Grade six: Use a straight edge and your protractors to draw angles with measures:

In addition you should measure the angles given on the printed worksheet.

Please take to class your protractors on Monday.

Grade seven:  continue working on your box and whisker plots.

Grade eight: Complete your worksheet: Algebra in Geometry that you got this morning. You should come to class with two different worksheets on Thursday morning. Please bring your compasses and protractors for construction.

 Grade seven: Do not leave your project for the last minute. Organize yourselves and come up with a plan of action. I love your enthusiasm..Keep it up.

Grade six. I just got 2 more signed assignment bringing the total to 3. I have 14 to go. Parents please sign the quizzes and insist that your child turn his in.

Guys, please complete the angle related assignment that you started in class. Learn the vocabulary associated with this topic. You will be quizzed on that too.

Below is the outline of your Statistics project: This is group work and should not be done otherwise.

Statistics Project

This unit will review and introduce concepts important to your study of statistics. You will create a product at the end of this unit that will show your understanding of this topic.
Due Date: February 17, 2012.
Knowledge (20 points)
●You will create a foldable that includes definitions for the following statistics terms. All definitions can be found in the glossary of your textbook or on any math websites. (10 points)

●You will learn and sing the statistics song on demand (to the tune of “Are you sleeping?”) (10 points)
Mean means average, mean means average, Mode means most, mode means most, Median’s in the middle, median’s in the middle, Now I know, now I know. Range means difference, range means difference, Big minus small, big minus small, these are all statistics, these are all statistics, Now I know, now I know.

 Comprehension (20 points)

Complete the following statistics assignments:The sheet is attached to your print-out.
            ○ What do they call the guy that invented the first blue jeans?
            ○ What happened to the cat that swallowed a ball of yarn?

Application (20 points)

● Survey 10 classmates for the following information: Name, Shoe size, Eye color, Number of people living in their homes, Age, Favorite T.V. show, and Favorite food.
● Create a table that shows all information.
● Analyze the data for the mean, median, mode, and range.
·  Is all data well suited for the mean, median, mode, and range?

 Synthesis (30 points)

You will conduct research on retail prices for your favorite singer’s newest C.D.
You must find 20 prices using online stores.
Create a box and whisker plot and a stem and leaf plot to display this information.
A poster or Power Point of this data must be turned in.

 Evaluation (10 points)

Write a 5 paragraph essay that answers the following questions: What is the significance of the study of statistics? How could this be used in your daily life? Include three examples of how statistics are used. Examples: sports, school, etc.     

Grade eight:

• complete Practice 1-3 for Thursday's class.
• Remember to get youselves a ruler, a pair of compass as well as a protractor for Thursday's class.

Grade six:

Today we examined the concepts of lines, rays, segments and planes. Use the information written in your notes as well as those found on page 455-456 of your text to respond to the items given in Practice exercise 9.1 and 9.2 of the worksheet given. Do all questions and name your lines, rays and segments appropriately.

Note: Grade six I did not get from you your signed quiz..even though I asked.

Grade eight:

 Use your research as well as your text to respond to the items given in Practice1-2: Geometry:  Points, lines and planes.

Long Weekend....

A quick reminder to all grades that your assignments are due on Monday (grades 8 &6) and Tuesday (7)

Grade eight: We are going to kick start our Geometry classes by looking at Points, Lines, Planes and Angles. Please complete your research and be prepared to contribute to our opening discussion.

 Grade seven: Complete the worksheet given on Real Life career activity: Statistician.

Solve each problem and write each answer as a whole number, a fraction, a decimal and a percent. Round decimals to the nearest hundredths if necessary.

 Grade six: Remember to get your Friday quiz signed. Spend some time practicing solving the problems given on the quiz since you may be allowed to retake a similar quiz to make up for those grades.

In addition, use the notes gathered on Wednesday Jan. 18th assignment to complete this weekend’s assignment on Points, Lines, Line segments and rays.

Today's classes

Today grade 7 looked at Statistics:Presenting data. We focussed our attention on The Circle graph. Students used proportional reasoning to calculate the measure of each central angle relating to the sector of data that they were presenting. They constructed the circle graph in their notebooks by using a pair of compass and a protractor. They will be allowed to practice this exercise on the computer in a later class.
Assignment was given and this should be signed and returned in tomorrow's class.

Grade six continued working on the multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers. We completed a multiplication fact worksheet and reviewed converting between improper fractions and mixed numbers. In tomorrows class we will complete a short quiz and start looking at Measurement and Geometry. Students were asked to do a mini research that will have them look up the items listed below:

• Define a line, a ray, a line segment
• Describe how each are named
• Identify how many endpoints a line, a line segment and a ray has
• Draw and name a line, a line segment and a ray.

This assignment should be ready for tommorrow's class.

Welcome back guys. I hope you had a fun filled holiday and you are back prepared to give the rest of the school year your best shot. For those of you (particularly sixth graders) who are struggling with your multiplication facts, I encourage you to visit multiplication.com so that you can practice the facts while you have some fun at the same time.
Grade seven.... lets work hard at converting between fractions, decimals and percents as well as to use information given to set up percent proportions.
Grade eight...what can I say? Practice. Practice. Practice. Absolutely nothing will stick if we dont. Lets not drop the ball at this very crucial time. Let us work to the best of our ability until the end of the school year.
